A couple of days ago I was on a video chat with family. My nephew had been feeling sick for a day or two and could not go outside to play. We caught him staring longingly out of the window for what seemed like an eternity. Poor little guy… he didn’t understand why he couldn’t be out there running around like crazy. His mommy knew better. She nurtured him back to health like the awesome mom that she is! Why do I bring up this story? Because sometimes we find ourselves staring “out the window” wondering why we’re missing out on the good stuff “outside”.
There are times when we all want something so badly that when it doesn’t work out in our favor, we fall into anger, sadness, depression and the like. It is beneficial at these times to step back and assess the entire situation. Why do you want this thing so badly? What will happen to you if you don’t get it? What will happen if you do? Will your life be diminished or enhanced either way? It seems trivial, maybe even silly, to make these lists but it helps to sort your feelings out in a very realistic way. Your perspective changes and so does your mood.
If my nephew’s mommy could so lovingly protect him from harm, imagine how much our Heavenly Father can protect us! Sometimes He says “no”, sometimes it’s “not yet” but all the time it’s for our own good! While you wait, use your time to prepare for your turn. Stay Joyful, friends!
